Applewood Mississauga

Applewood Mississauga

LOCATION: Applewood is located on the edge of Mississauga and Etobicoke, just south of Hwy 401 at Dixie and West of Etobicoke itself. This community is great if you are looking for a quieter and more mature neighbourhood with close proximity to Etobicoke and Toronto.

POPULATION: Approx. 33,733

DESCRIPTION OF HOMES: 95% of the homes in Applewood are older than 25 years. This area is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Mississauga and many long-term residents reside here today. The community is less centred around big box stores (like newer communities typically are) and more focused around little parks and schools in the area.

There is a mixture of styles including: classic bungalows from the 1960s and 1970s, sidesplits, backsplits, detached homes, apartment buildings, and townhomes. Separate entrances and basement apartments are common. Be aware that if you purchase a home in this area, you will most likely need to fix up a few things or update that 70s styled kitchen and carpets to something more modern-looking.

SCHOOLS: Burnamthorpe Public School is ranked #15 in Mississauga. Tomken Middle School stands out from the rest because of its advanced science and technology program called the SciTech Program. In terms of high schools, Applewood Heights Secondary School offers a great Regional Sports Program and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) for students looking for specialized classes, work placements and hands-on learning geared towards the sports sector.

COMMUNITY: This community is more mature and established than newer pop-up neighbourhoods. The style of homes and average age of families are slightly older, and it is often considered a second-time buyer area. However, the older style of homes means larger lots and yards, and more affordable prices. Another option is to upgrade a fixer-upper on a nicely sized lot for your dream house in the future.

CONVENIENCE/TRANSIT: It only takes a few minutes to get to the City Centre in downtown Mississauga. The Dixie Go Station is also located just minutes away the other way. Additionally, Applewood is on the edge of Mississauga and Etobicoke, so commuting to Etobicoke and downtown Toronto is an easy ride.
